I just purchased our own domain name so once I finalize the site and get all the ducks in a row our permanent address will be nysportsboard.com.
We will no longer be riding another hosts domain and we will no longer have to move or switch addresses. We will forever be the NY Sports Board.
UPDATE: I made the switch over to the new URL nysportsboard.com so there might be a few hours where this place might not load up or be slow. Once done the forum should be good to go and the nysportsboard.com will be the permanent address that you should use from that point on.

Congratulations Slapper on your own domain name and now having control of the hosting.
Have you thought about running ads on your site to recoup costs - if not profit? Like you recently mentioned - I think on zetaboards - the changes you're making should help generate more NY sports fan to your site in time. We posters can help by letting others know about nysportsboard. IMO, when word gets out, this should be a go-to place.

For now I was just looking to keep things simple and mainly just build upon what we already had. Attract some new people. So far the costs are not really anything that I myself feel is pressing. I don't even want to tell you what I spend on my actual business website and marketing. Compared to that this is a walk in the park but the real truth was just having control so we don't have to keep getting pushed around. Now that the board has it's own domain name in the future we can change hosts or anything we want and as far as the members go they will click on their bookmark and they will get to the right place. It will also be in the search engine register so anyone anywhere will be able to find us. I have some Ideas to make the place better for all of us and this move makes that all possible and being a stand alone site makes all the difference in the world. |
