I thought that was the best start of a game by any ranger team in a long time. Unfortunately we got into penalty trouble again during two segments of the game. Wheeler was guilty of two mindless infractions in the beginning. Come on, Blake. Even though we killed them all off, the last one led to Detroit's first goal. Six minor penalties is way too much, despite the phantom call on Miller. I think that's twice it's happened to him this season. This was Zac Jones best game as a ranger. He didn't have the best third period, but it still was a pretty good game by him.

He's been very disappointing and I can't understand why he was been rewarded with a spot on the top six. And I totally agree that Jones put in a very strong performance tonight. He played with a lot of confidence and his game was very impressive. The Rangers offense was very potent tonight, especially the powerplay. And even with the 3 goals that they gave up in the 3rd period, the Rangers overall game tonight was very solid.

But they can never give us a laugher for 60 minutes, can they.
As for Wheeler.....one wonders if Drury went to Laviolette and said "see if this guy can do anything with Zbad and Kreids. Right now he's making look bad."

Game Observations 1) For two periods they were playing their best game of the season. A 5-0 lead probably made them relax a bit. 2) Jones and Gustafsson picked up their game on offense. Gustafsson was sharp running the power play replacing Fox. 3) A lot of players like Panarin and Zibanejad are taking the body more than in the past. I think that's what Laviolette is trying to instill in all of them. 4) The fourth line played well and pressured the Wings with a good forecheck.

....also, y'all know my thoughts on Kreider over the course of his tenure here, BUT...he's playing more engaged on the ice than I've ever seen him before. So within this small sample size thus far, Laviolette seems to be doing something right, with this roster.

Chance we'll be playing a third string goalie tomorrow night. I wonder if the Wild have a habit of making third stringers look like all stars the way we do?
