That was a tough win for the Rangers against a surprisingly good Arizona team. They definitely had to earn that one. Igor was really good and he needed to be. I figured we would have scored more that 2 goals against Arizona's backup goalie, but isn't that always the case with us? Was nice to finally see the Rangers stick up for themselves with that bullshit when the game ended.Absolutely. A little more of that during the game would be nice, too. But it was great to see some heat out there, for once!
But hey... a win is a win, I suppose.
In my opinion - and obviously I feel very strongly about this - each player has multiple chances through out a game to send a message (however subtle) that they won't take any shit from anyone. There are way too many guys that don't do that; and as a fan, it's frustrating to watch. It's very often the opponent that's stirring it up, laying out massive hits, finishing their checks HARD and often, etc. I just don't see how straying away from that serves success on the ice in any way.
Would anyone fuck with Ovi? No. Because they know he'll find a way to laying them out with a massive (but clean) hit or a knockout punch. Same with T.J. Oshie. Same with MANY other players throughout the NHL who are not known to be "enforcers", per se. But it's important to compete and not allow another to impose his will. There are players who understand this.
The Rangers are more often than not, on the receiving end of a lot of physicality and there's barely a reaction, mostly turning the other cheek.
I think in the long run, it's counter-productive to deep success in the Playoffs, too. OK. Rant over.

Unless Ben Harpur is injured, I see absolutely no reason for Zac Jones to be in, instead of him. (They both shoot left) I'll take Ben on D any day of the week. The Rangers are not winning a Cup with little Zac Jones. Not this season, not ANY season.
What the fuck was Drury thinking? What the hell is Laviolette and staff thinking, to put him in?
He needs to be the main healthy scratch at all times. Period.

Yup. We've talked this before regarding Jones and my opinion of him hasn't changed one bit. He doesn't have the chops to be and effective defenseman, at least not for the Rangers. We need bigger bodies who have umph to their game, which Jones simply doesn't have. Drury needs to trade him, in my opinion.

Ben also has an edge to his game. The Rangers need that.

I think this is the problem for anyone who becomes a coach for the Rangers. As a coach your personal knowledge and experience is used to build a team and a system. As a coach for the Rangers your personal knowledge and experience is to aid you in implementing the team and system they want you to follow. There is no way in hell a coach with Peter's experience or even Gallants experience is going to come in here knowing this team is softer than Charmin, and say " we need this average undersized soft D-man to right this ship" I think most Coaches come in here with their own Ideas and plan on using they players they want in the line up. Then they find out the team already has the roster and lines all worked out for them. Then as with all coaches that come here, they start to feel like a babysitter/ caretaker and not a coach. Their intrest starts to wane and so does their attitude. Then they are just unhappy and it becomes a job with a paycheck until they get blamed for everything and fired.
