Sam didn't retire obviously.
He we go!!!
First game of the season at MSG!
Will the Rangers rise to the level of the MSG hype?
Time will tell.

I haven't looked at the Coyotes' roster. How do the Rangers match up against them?

Hopefully they look more like they did on Thursday.

Hopefully they look more like they did on Thursday. The Phoenix goalie has 7 wins and 15 losses in the NHL.
The Rangers have the firepower to fully exploit him.
QUESTION OF THE NIGHT is ...
Do they have the killer instinct to make that happen???

When the opponents start hitting hard, the Rangers RARELY decide to do the same! So, essentially, by default, they're the ones getting banged up on a regular basis - just taking hits, with no response in any way.
(Lindgren seems to be a target, regularly.)
Soft hockey will get them NOWHERE. Period!

Nice play by Mika and Kreider!
1-0.
Lame call on Fox, but let's see the reply on that to confirm.

Good first period by the Rangers. I have to say, Arizona is no cakewalk. They have some good players on their team and the Rangers needed to be on their toes, which they were. Keep plugging away on these guys and fire away. As Paul said, I would like to see a bit more physicality from the Rangers.

Until it's well-balanced hockey, I will always bitch about the lack of pushback, emotion and physicality. Dumba pushes Kreider after the whistle. No response. He turned the other cheek. In my opinion, don't take a penalty but do SOMETHING to the guy. SOMETHING! Those are the small moments that make me believe that certain players have no balls out there.
(I miss Sean Avery. At least he remembered that this is ENTERTAINMENT afterall; and he knew how to get the team and the crowd into it. This roster does everything it can to keep things soft and cuddly. Not my style of hockey, that's for damn sure.)

Phoenix is playing with the speed, energy and physicality that Laviolette wants his guys to play. It's likely going to be a frustrating season for Peter.

Boy, this officiating crew is sucking it tonight.

Definitely can't take penalties on this team, although the refs gifted the Coyotes a few calls tonight after a no call hooking or tripping our guys

Looks like the head coach had a little chat with the boys in between the 2nd and 3rd periods.

Game Observations 1) It wasn't a thing of beauty, but it was a win. 2) Shesterkin had to be good in this one. 3) Rangers were very passive in the defensive zone. 4) They missed the net on a lot of shots.

Coyotes look like a different team, but still have issues in their own end. Rangers looked a bit disorganized early on in our own end 5 on 5, but not passive in my opinion. The killing of the 5 on 3 was definitely the turning point. Outstanding third period.

That was a tough win for the Rangers against a surprisingly good Arizona team. They definitely had to earn that one. Igor was really good and he needed to be. I figured we would have scored more that 2 goals against Arizona's backup goalie, but isn't that always the case with us? Was nice to finally see the Rangers stick up for themselves with that bullshit when the game ended.
