Well, the draft is upon us. First round is tonight, Rangers have the #23 pick and 4 picks in the later rounds (a 3rd rounder, a 5th rounder, and two 6th rounders). This year's draft is supposedly one of the deeper drafts in recent memory, so I would hope that Drury will make a move or two to get us a few more picks especially since the Rangers have very little cap space and need to dump some salaries anyway.

Perrault falling to us at 23 is a potential Grand Slam of a steal

Connor Bedard was selected with the No. 1 pick by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2023 Upper Deck NHL Draft at Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday.

This kid has some high-end skills. He’s gonna have to pack about 20-25 lbs of muscle onto that frame before he makes it to the NHL. He’s young yet, so it’s possible. Hard to be positive about anyone the Rangers draft, but I’m trying. I do like that they’ve gotten away from drafting so many Europeans. Development of these kids is key. That’s where the Rangers seem to fuck it all up.

Look who Buffalo drafted. 159 pounds soaking wet.

Even smaller players like Kane or Zuccarello have a strong core. He’s 18. Not like he’s done growing. I just severely have my doubts about our organizations ability to develop these players properly.

I actually like how the Rangers drafted this year. We got a very skilled high-end player in Perrault. Our next pick in the 3rd round (Drew Fortescue) is a promising defenseman from the US developmental team and a teammate of Perrault. The rest of the Rangers pick were big-bodied players. It's too bad we only had 5 picks in this year's draft, but that's what happens when you trade away picks in order to "win now". And when you don't win now, you sacrifice your future and deplete your salary cap, which is exactly the situation the Rangers are in now.

The quandry is that the speedy highly-skilled players are almost always smaller in size. That's just the way it is. The important thing is to have a roster that is balanced out with speed, skill, size, and grit. The elite teams always have the right balance of everything.

All the articles you read are about how we are in “win now” mode too. It is what it is. Not like it’s anything different then the past. Impatience from the team owner and organization as a whole has done it’s damage over and over again.

Not saying smaller players can’t play in the NHL, Sorry, that wasn't my point. All I was trying to say it's normal to draft players who are lighter. They're still growing.

However coming from 165 lbs as opposed to already having man strength is a disadvantage. Not saying he can’t do it. It’s just something he’s gonna have to work on before he makes it. Looks like Perreault is committed to BC. He should have 2-3 years to fill out that frame.
