Perhaps. But what coach is out there who could have done better? As far as I can tell, there are not a hell of a lot of options to choose from. There aren’t Double R, but the season isn’t over yet. There will be more guys available come summer. I liked the guy, but coaching is all about timing. For better or worse this group doesn’t respond to him anymore. A different voice is needed. The players fundamentally as a group need to be better. Perhaps it's time to give Kris Knoblauch his shot. He's paid his dues within the organization and he's done a very good job coaching the Wolfpack, plus he obviously knows the prospects very well since he's coaches them. Whether or not he's the right fit for this current Ranger team is for Drury to decide.

A lot of people seem to forget how good Igor Shesterkin is. He’s covered up a lot of this teams shortcomings the last couple of seasons. He definitely made Gallant’s record look a lot better then it should’ve been in his time with us. Again, he’s a good coach. I think we can do better though. I did forget. That's a really good point.

Word on the street is that the Rangers were seeking new coach options during the season.
If that is the case, then the onus falls on Drury & Co once again, for not doing enough due diligence on Gallant and then asking the RIGHT QUESTIONS during his interview process.

I still stand by my take on this situation. Look at the roster. They're mostly softies. That is 100% on Drury and scouting.
Look at Kreider for example. Maybe he finished five checks throughout the 7 game series. MAYBE!
That's a problem to me, if he's one of the "leaders" on the Rangers.
But that's just one example.

One of the questions I have is this. Despite good team records during prior coaching gigs, why does Gallant get canned every two to three years?

I think what's obvious at this point, is that there are multiple valid points on this topic. Maybe behind the scenes, Gallant is not a good coach and just maybe if it wasn't for Shesterkin's heroics, Gallant wouldn't have had the record he did here.
(Thanks to NYR112935 for that reminder.) That's certainly a possibility.
What's also valid is that when you look at this roster, there aren't many players who are all that tough to play against.
Again, that falls on scouting and Drury's signing them. Too many softies on this team. (It's been a theme! Why?)
On the entire roster, here's a short list of players who actually finish checks like they mean it - and only TWO are forwards! (That's a big problem to me.)
Trouba Schneider
Lindgren
Goodrow
Motte
*Trocheck gets a slight nod here, but indeed he was not the player he was vs. the Devils that he was last year with Carolina vs. the Rangers. What the fuck happened?

All I know is that Brennan Othmann and Will Cuylle better damn well be in the Ranger lineup next season. Kane and whoever else need to go.

The answer about Gallant probably lies somewhere in between. Shesty holds this team in a lot of games. Until they decide they want to play, or get lucky with a skillful goal. That shit might work during the regular season, but you gotta want it more in the playoffs. That’s always what it comes down to. Who will pay the bigger price to win. Goodrow was another player that was a positive in the series. Motte also was good (which Drury is rumored to want to sign). We’ve gotta get these young kids going. If it means hiring a Knoblauch or trading a Kreider and/or Panarin. Then it needs to happen. These kids need to thrive in bigger roles. Double R brings up Cuylle and Othman. Those kids both look like they got some character to their games.

Don't pay attention to the title of the video. This guy breaks down the salary cap and how it's going to affect the lines next season.

"The players can't get fired, so the next option is to get a fresh face behind the bench. "
Which is why things never change.

What Drury does this offseason regarding his head coaching choice and player personnel is going to be critical. The more I think about it, the more I hope Kris Knoblauch gets the nod for the Rangers next head coach. He's done a damn good job within the organization and he's earned the shot. Apparently he's a very good X's and O's coach and he is very adept at making in-game adjustments, two things that Gallant has never been very good at. So those two things alone make him an upgrade over Gallant. All of the players that have played under him have nothing but good things to say about him. I'm not impressed at the short list of retread coaches that are avaialble. I never been impressed with Bruce Boudreau, Peter Laviolette hasn't gotten out of the first round of the playoffs since 2018. Joel Quenville? Forget him and the stink that is now attached to him. Give Knoblauch his shot, every NHL coach has had their first opportunity sometime, so let this be his.

You might just give some thought to the idea that there is a world of difference between coaching minor leaguers looking to make the big time and a bunch of superstars with No Trade Clauses who think the sun shines out their asses.
