My first comment here is that I do not think that Gallant should be fired.
As I said in a post here yesterday, sure he could've made better in-game decisions, but in my opinion the onus truly does fall on the roster he's given to work with. ....and that is on DRURY and the SCOUTING STAFF.
Last year's surprise success in the post-season was clearly due to a bunch of players who worked their asses off every shift:
Phil DeGiuseppe Frank Vatrano Andrew Copp Tyler Motte
3 of those players, Drury let go. This season was back to lazy no-touch hockey and trying to make the perfect plays to score. It didn't work.
And that's why they'll be on the golf course this weekend.
Gallant is NOT the problem right now for this team!

All good points, Paul. It really should come as no surprise to anyone that the Rangers fell early in the postseason this year. Drury made trade decisions that were based on "bling" and not substance. The team that the Rangers became late in the season were a collection of allstars, not an actual team. Too many tuxedos, not enough hardhats.

From my sense of the team, watching most games, they played a bit of a slow non-chalant style of play - AS IF that's all they needed to win, AS IF they didn't need to work hard. It seems they TRULY didn't realize that this season. It felt like they were resting on how far they got last year and it was automatic that they'd succeed with this roster.
NOPE!
WRONG!

Between their style of hockey and the lack of ANY true re-build + the soft players they're stacked with, it feels that Dolan may be influencing many hockey decisions. (100% speculation on my part.)
And if that's NOT the case, then Drury and his scouts need to GO!... because this roster is as soft as Charmin and more importantly ONCE AGAIN this team is back to trying to find chemistry. WTF?! With very few exceptions, NYR hockey is back to passive, passionless, puck-chasing, non-physical hockey that really disinterests me. It's just really not very exciting hockey.
Question of the Day :
Are Drury's hands tied, due to Dolan's "win now" demands - or are Drury and his co-workers truly incompetent?
🤔

I do have to say, I'm more than a little concerned at this apparent argument between Gallant and Drury. Was it just a heat of the moment thing or does it suggest something more? And the fact that we haven't heard a peep from Drury since the Rangers were eliminated is pretty telling. Let's be honest, whenever there is a rift between the GM and the coach, the GM will always win that battle as the GM has the power to fire the coach, not the other way around. I hope that isn't the case here, Gallant has done a good job in two seasons with the Rangers and it would be a huge mistake to fire him.

The salary cap will be the determining factor in the Rangers' moves. The other downside of having too many "stars" is that there is no money left to sign the workers.

All the more reason some of the stars need to go. They shouldn't be rewarded for their disgraceful performance in the playoffs. Goodbye Kane, Tarasenko, and I would ask Panarin to wave him no-move clause so we can trade his sorry ass. Replace them with young, hungry, cheaper, hard working players who play like they give a shit.

For the right price, I'd definitely keep Tarasenko, but it would be nice for him if Panarin was still here. What a mess. I don't fucking know.

Again, so many GMs are seemingly open and honest with what's going on with their team. With the Rangers, it's all so secretive and feels so cryptic. It's super annoying to me, as this is just an entertainment business afterall. I'm an advocate for putting the Truth on the table and telling it like it is. There's a certain freedom in that.

At the end of this interview, Jacob is talking about Gallant. He answers the questions. Some of those pauses at the end left me wondering what he was really thinking.

I had the same take on that. He was definitely hesitating and being careful with his words- obviously doing his best to say the right things. But indeed that itself was very telling.

The other thing about the playoffs is that it does not necessarily reward the "best" team but rather the "hottest" team. No one had a better season than Boston. Now they are golfing.

The interview reinforces to me that Jacob is the right man for the job.
