Either there are too many Rip Van Winkles here or G-d forbid have been seriously affected by Covid-19. I certainly hope the former is the case.
So lets talk Islanders, will ya? Currently the news is good. Lou cleared approx 17mil payroll with the departure of Leddy,Ladd and Eberle. Add Boychuks 6mil Cap hit , move it to LTIR and you have 23mil Cap Space. Subsequently you cannot burn a hole in your pocket and fail to significantly upgrade the departed players. Landeskog would be a huge get as would Tarasenko provided Beauvillier isn't moved to St Louis. We could do worse than adding Ryan Suter to the defensive core for a year or two to keep the space warm for the likes of Salo,Boldec or Wilde. Though he'll be playing at age 36 next season his tank is not empty.
Hopefully Lou hasn't boxed himself in however. What seemed like a given is now a concern. If reports are true, the Blues Brass may not grant Tarasenko his wish and decide to keep him around. Of course he can choose to sit out the season, but sacrifice 7.5mil in the process. I'd say that is most unlikely. Over in Denver the Av's are prepared to make another run at Gabe. Should LL strike out on both players our GM may need the fire dep't to extinguish his burning pocket! Whaddy think we can do fans?? There isn't much left to trade since Lou has sacrificed a significant amount of draft capital.
