Due to permanent optic nerve damage and resulting limited peripheral vision his career has come to an end. The ramifications of his future on the business and roster side will ultimately determine the degree of movement Lou is allowed. Johnny has transplanted he and his family roots on Long Island. If he officially retires he leaves 2.5 mil on the table. Retirement is the best case scenario for both parties. Given Boychuk's love for the Island I'd suggest The Brass him into the off ice side of the Organization, set him up with a long term deal be it on the bench or front office more than making up for his 2.5Mil. A solid citizen and lifer such as this could only benefit the team and Franchise going forward. Doing so will give the Franchise 9.9mil Cap space which should be more than enough to bridge Matty Barzal to age 27. Add Andrew Ladd's 1.075mil Cap space buried in Bridgeport along with Uncle Leo and the 9.9mil becomes upward of 11.5mil. Suddenly enough room is available to re-upp Matt Martin while adding a couple of free agents(Duclair?? Koekkook??Hutton?? Our old friend Travis Hamonic??) At the end of the day Johnny Boychuk's future is secured and the Islanders Cap problems are solved for another year. I wish The Boychuk family many years of peace and happiness on Long Island.
