This is getting ridiculous. Where the hell are the bats? Good pitching will always beat good hitting. Our lineup has too many all or nothing hitters-like Sanchez and Encarnacion.Houston is just better on both sides of the ball against us. They have a great batting order and a great bullpen but their biggest weakness has always been a inconsistent starting rotation and they can not play small ball. If they can not hit the Astro's pitchers they will not have a chance against the Nats. The whole reason why the Nats got this far was pitching and at this level pitching is 98% of it. Yankees need to go out this offseason and get some real deal proven talent on the mound instead of others teams potential stars. They also need to work on the small ball game because trying to change the game with one swing does not work at this level. In the playoffs pitchers work around the strike zone and give you garbage. You need to make something out of those pitches and home runs more often then not require the pitch to be in the sweet spot. Your not getting that this time of the year and this team needs to learn how to slap that ball instead of knocking the cover off it. They can still rattle off three in a row, Houston just did it. But the big difference was there was no pressure on Houston during these three wins. If they lost any one of them there was still a couple more tomorrows left. The Yankees don't have any more tomorrows left. Give them nothing to hit and the game will be over. That will be Houston's game plan.

I would have no problem trading a Sanchez and Clint Frasier for a top notch ace the likes of Jacob Degrom or Noah Syndergaard. That's what they need, It wouldn't happen. You can bet if the Boss wS still around Verlander would have been a Yankee, not an Astros. George put his money back on the field of play not in the bank like his sons. George was all about winning Hal and Hank are all about saving money.

George was all about winning Hal and Hank are all about saving money. George did not own the Yankees to make a buck. It was all baseball and winning to him. His son I guess got pushed out of the other family businesses and is now only trying to make one of the richest Franchises in sports more wealthy. I really am not complaining though. By all rights this team is still rebuilding and we are only about 2 to 3 years into it. We get spoiled and forget the fact that this team started winning sooner than anticipated. Everything is in place except a complete knockout rotation. Other then that as I previously stated they need to work on the small ball game because that keeps coming back to bite them in the ass come playoff time. I like Sanchez and I am not too down on him. He is the type of player he gets rolling and any disruptions like a injury sets him back big time. He was having a good year and then he tweaked that Hamstring in September and came back and was not the same since. I don't think the injury is lingering or effecting him. He needs to learn and deal with that because injuries are a way of life for catchers and the stakes are too high being a Yankee. It would have been nice to get to the Series and even win it, But I am still happy with the team and how well it has been built so far and they did have another great season. We got a lot of good young Talent on this team and a early exit will only fuel the need to expedite fixing our flaws. At least being a Yankee Fan our biggest problem more often then not is how far we will go in the playoffs where as most other teams fans just hope and pray they can even make the playoffs. Got to put things into perspective and things can always be worse. My Father inlaw is a Met fan and he suffers every year! We get an occasional stinker now and again but we don't suffer like that.

Well Dan, it ain't over, till it's over. I am still looking to win tonight, and then it's any ones game. Let's see what they are made of tonight. It's do or die, and we don't want them celebrating in our house.

One other thing that got lost in all of this was how CC's Career just came to an end! Not the way I envisioned it ending for him. He was a great Yankee and a HOFer for Sure!

Well, Yankees come back and win game 5, and it's a new ball game now. Paxton did one he'll of a job. We got to Bucks and Smoltz Gods Gift to pitching, Verlander early and he gets the loss. And BTW, After tonight, Yankees have actually outscored Astros 17-16 thru 5 games. I think it shows that despite the all the talk about the Astros great rotation Yankees pitching stood right there with them. Dam good win.

Out of all the people they could put in to pitch tonight, Why oh why did they put Green in to pitch a game that has so much on the line?

Not a happy time for Yankees fans. Yankees had heck of season despite so many injuries, but Houston outplayed them and are the better team. Houston just does the little things that win close ballagames.
I have lots of respect for Aaron Boone who's measured, thoughtful, and really cares about his players. That clip with Aaron Boone talking with, consoling and hugging a shell shocked Sanchez, just shows what an A-plus man he is.

That clip with Aaron Boone talking with, consoling and hugging a shell shocked Sanchez, just shows what an A-plus man he is. I doubt any Yankee fans are all that upset. This is only the 3rd year into this rebuild and we made it to the playoffs in 2 of the 3 years. You don't get 40 pennants and 27 world championships because you did not make the playoffs or miss them frequently as a franchise. Being a Yankee Fan you have the privilege of getting used to them getting eliminated because they make the playoffs so much. As fans we don't get as upset as say a fan of a team that has not won in decades getting the boot within a couple games of making the series. To someone like that it is far more upsetting then to someone who see's it all the time. It's not bragging or being a dick, Just pointing out that as fans we been very blessed and still are. Most Yankees fans live by that expression that was probably invented for them, " Oh Well, You Can't win them all " Houston is a very good team and has been a very good team for several seasons. There is certainly no shame in losing to them. If the Yankees had a little better more consistent starting Rotation we probably would have been looking at a different result. They also need to get better at the small ball game. Judge has learned to be more patient and take more pitches and I think this year will reinforce him getting even better. It will also give all these other younger players some more insight on what they need to do to get better in the playoffs. There will definitely be some changes and we know CC is retiring and Gardner will probably be gone as well. I also think the team regrets taking on Stanton. He gets injured quite a lot and just has not delivered in the playoffs. He griped about wanting to be on a playoff team his whole career and since being a Yankee he made the playoffs both seasons and has not done much. Funny how he carried the Marlins but falls into mediocrity with the Yankees. Speaking for myself I am not a unhappy Yankee fan today. I am very happy and they had a good season with plenty to look forward to. Last night was not the end but yet the beginning of many good years ahead. I am also Happy for Houston and I actually have liked that team for some time now and I new from April that these two were going to duke it out in the End. I am also happy for the Nats and I think it was poetic justice for what happened to them last offseason with the whole Harper debacle. Funny how getting rid of Harper made them a better team and Philly did no better then they usually do. Should be a very good world series and as long as Boston, LA or any team from Chicago are not in it then I will enjoy myself even if teh Yankees are not in it. I like Houston and think they will win but I think I am going to root for the Nationals. Would be nice to see a fresh face get a Championship

A lot of my post, may have some frustration in it. But Unlike you Dan, I am not a happy Yankee Fan. I know there are some great moves were made by Cashman getting the likes of Gio, DJ, and Gleyber, along with Tuchman, Voit, but bottom, line, it was not enough, and we were beat by a better team. Astros played like a team that was there to win. Yankees played like a team that was trying to hang on. That to me tells me, we were not good enough to go all the way, and 2nd place gets you nothing. Just can't end the season saying you came close, but no cigar. And wait till next year. If the Yankees want to win another World Series, Hank better get serious. Starting with the GM Cashman. Its time for a change. I would fire Cashman and hire Buck Showalter as GM. The man knows more about the game then anyone in the organization. I have no confidence in Chapman every time he comes to the mound. This loss should be a big wake up call for the Yankees.,But that said, I don't have much faith in the steinbrenner's. I am sick of their talking points. And I would trade Sanchez in a heart beat with a package deal for a top notch Ace. Cole, Verlander, both could have been Yankees, but the Yankees refused to sign what they needed, so instead of buying a Cadillac, they settled for a couple of Volkswagen Beetles. Changes need to be made in the front office. I know Cashman may have been handcuffed. By Hal. But IMO, its time for a change.

What ever the reasons being as to why we lost it no longer matters. The way it stands now we finish as the 3rd best team behind the Nats and the Astros and nothing will change that. I would not get rid of Cashman and there is no need to panic. This foundation to this team is built for many more years and we only need a couple pitchers and throw a couple small ball players in the line up. I would never get involved with Showalter ever again and he could not shine Cashmans shoes in the GM role. He has never won anything and he wears his out where ever he goes. Getting rid of Cashmean and Bringing in Buck would deliver you your worst nightmare coming true to the Yankees, Futility! The goal is to win it all but you can not do that if you are not in the playoffs. Houston was a good team and as good as they are we had plenty of opportunities to win this series and blew them for what ever reason. We left countless runners on in scoring position in every game. Besides that it is not like we got man handled or blown away and got schooled. We made mistakes and the Astros made the most of it and that is what it came down to.
